Diet Diary October 8, 2009

By admin | Oct 8, 2009

I usually make several entries a day to this diary.  It’s a work in progress.

Up at 5AM two cups of coffee no sugar.  Weighed in at 225.5 pounds.

Breakfast 1 scrambled egg, one English muffin, 6 stewed prunes, and a small glass of milk. I will be drinking green tea all day.

Lunch A Seafood sandwich wrap, a glass of the usual skim milk, A small container of Activia yogurt. I noticed the yogurt has a lot of sodium in it.  I have not had time to walk today yet, but I’m happy if I get 3 hours a week in.

Dinner A  delicious frozen shrimp dinner with noodles and mixed vegetables, a slice of wheat bread, a small glass of milk, a dish of fresh stewed apples, and I drank green tea all day and snacked on six pieces of dried prunes and dry apricots.

I do not feel hungry at all ands my calories for the day are under 1500 as they should be.  I did not have time to walk today.

Ok, the site has had a major makeover.  Now you may comment right on this page. If you are new to this blog it is important that you scroll down to the bottom and read the opening remarks.  You will also find where I have posted my daily diet including my morning weigh in.  Please do not be afraid to comment.  We can all learn a lot from this and hopefully share some weight loss tips.  Personally, I do not use any pills of gimmicks of any kind.

Mental Toughness and dieting .

To me, dieting is a mental exercise as well as physical.  Mental toughness is a must.  As long as you do not have a physical problem where a doctor says it is impossible to lose weight then you should be able to lose weight. My feeling, and my plan is that I need to lose 50 more pounds to really get healthy.  Now being realistic, that could take me a year or more, so what, the sooner I start the sooner I get there.  So it’s really not the length of time, it is about getting the job done.  Looking back, a year or two is nothing in the course of a lifetime.    I do not have the time to spend hours in a gym doing endless exercises so I have chosen walking and dieting.  You need mental toughness to succeed in anything really.  It takes a lot of it to lose weight when your body is crying out for all those extra goodies.  So how do you do it? Well you need an incentive, and when it comes to incentives, I take a really hard line.  I think about things like a young woman of forty-nine that just died suddenly from a hidden heart problem, or all of my contemporaries  from the Korean war that have spent years eating , drinking, and smoking themselves into oblivion, and now they are dropping like mosquitoes in a Raid factory.  For me,  that’s incentive!  I may be 76, but I’m not quite ready to leave yet.  On the more pleasant side, think about how much better you will start to feel almost immediately.  Then there is the part about looking better. Most people would like to look better.  How about adding ten or fifteen years to your life, and the lower medical bills too.  Usually  when you start to lose weight your blood pressure begins to drop right along with it, and that a very good result! So when you start to think about giving up your diet and giving yourself all kinds of excuses like I did so many times.  Just think about looking and feeling better, and not dying younger. Now that’s incentive, and it is not going to cost you a penny! You are going to do it all on your own, but if you should fall down, like the man says, get right back up on the horse.  Hopefully there will be people commenting, and other people encouraging each other and sharing good solid tips to get the weight off.  I hope so, this is a lot of extra work for me.  I hope I’m burning calories!  So take my 10 day challange and see if you really have it in you to get healthy, because if you are overweight, you are not really healthy and feeling your best.

Walt

    Hi Beth,
That’s great, it’s a tough challenge! We will all be pulling for you. You will actually feel better after three days. I am still doing mine since I started in September and feel so great! I can’t wait for 90 days to go by.
